Consensual dominance and submission could be the undercurrent of numerous indie films. Impressively, however, Secretary does double responsibility: It celebrates the sometimes violent intimacy between two partners even though in some way launching the job of a totally empowered woman actor, Gyllenhaal, who's under no circumstances under confident.
